Biography
I am a freelance researcher and consultant in visitor and resident travel and transport in rural areas. My Fellowship looks at how to decarbonise the whole home-to-within destination visitor journey, focussing on the role of traffic restraint.
Leisure travel represents a significant proportion of the carbon footprint of both rural visitor destinations and of individuals, but falls between the cracks of policy and responsibilities. We know that many visitors are willing to change how they travel, but opportunities to do so are fragmented, expensive or non-existent. My Fellowship studies visitor destinations in which integrated, low carbon travel is a positive part of the visitor experience. I will look particularly at roles of traffic restraint plus integration with approach travel in whole-journey decarbonisation. This will provide both compelling visions & cases for visitor destination & approach transport systems to inform and influence key decision makers and influencers nationally and locally.
Essentially, it will help people understand both how things could be and the co-benefits, and so build appetites for low carbon visitor destinations.
