Spirituality and dementia
2013
I am a freelance theatre-maker and consultant. I am currently studying the healing arts and aromatherapy. I stepped down as Spare Tyre Theatre Company's Artistic Director and CEO in August 2019 after inspirational and acclaimed leadership for 19 years.
My 2013 Churchill Fellowship explored dementia, ageing and spirituality. This gave me the courage and space to develop sensory theatre for non-verbal audiences.
I am at the forefront of sensory theatre for teaching people with disability and people living with dementias. The Garden was developed for both these audiences and has toured extensively in the UK, reaching over 500 care settings. Love Unspoken is a show for south Asian people living with dementias and their carers.
I have recently acted as dramaturg for Oily Cart Theatre Company's Space to Be – a sensory show that is posted to the homes of children living with complex needs for a unique family experience. Culture Box commissioned me as artist to produce a sensory experience for care homes – the soundscape can be experienced with or without objects.
I am a Tonic Award 2020 recipient and a Research Fellow for Contemporary Theatre at Birkbeck University.
