Biography
I combine working as a primary care doctor in Aberfeldy with a research career at the University of Dundee, undertaking research into physical activity promotion. I am passionate about removing barriers to movement and have co-founded a community-based initiative in Aberfeldy, to enact and inspire local change.
Physical inactivity is a major health issue and healthcare has an important role to play in addressing it. But despite awareness of the plethora of benefits of movement, the promotion of physical activity by health professionals is poorly implemented.
I will travel to four countries that offer different perspectives on how to promote physical activity and to explore the role of healthcare workers in these programmes and initiatives. I hope to understand how different countries address the issue of physical inactivity and to help in the creation of bespoke solutions to fit the unique challenges here in the UK. I hope that my findings will shape my clinical and academic practice, and hope to share them widely via written media, talks and podcast platforms.
