I am the Resilience and Security Lead for the Science Museum Group, a collection of five science-based museums plus a state-of-the-art collections storage facility. I lead on security for the collection, colleagues, visitors and buildings, as well as emergency planning and business continuity for the Group. Previously I worked for Westminster City Council and for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea as a contingency planner, and a public health emergency manager during the COVID-19 pandemic.

My fellowship will explore how best the cultural heritage sector can prepare for one of the biggest risks we face as a nation - large-scale electrical power failure. Our electricity supply is becoming increasingly vulnerable to failure, meanwhile our dependence on it is increasing. The security and safety of our cultural heritage heavily counts on a reliable electricity supply, so it's imperative we have tried and tested strategies to ready ourselves. I plan to learn from museums, galleries and historic sites in the United States who have a great deal of experience dealing with power failure, both as a hazard in itself and as a consequence of other hazards (like storms, tornados and earthquakes). I will also speak to conservators and emergency managers at local, regional and national levels, about effective measures for preparation, mitigation, response and recovery. I aim to understand how similar models can be created and implemented in the UK.
