Biography
I'm a graduate officer for local government in Cambridge. I've always been interested in how the world can be made safer and fairer for women and girls. Throughout my time at university, I led an anti-sexual violence group looking to reduce instances of sexual violence, abuse and harassment on campus. I now work for an organisation delivering public transport and active travel projects, and have developed an interest in how places and infrastructure can be designed with the safety of women and girls in mind.
The purpose of my Fellowship is to explore how public spaces can be made safer, more accessible and more enjoyable. I aim to investigate the development of gender inclusive places through three key themes: storytelling, policy and design. I'm planning to travel to Bogotá and Cartagena in Colombia, and Stockholm and Umeå in Sweden to meet with experts, community groups, architects and municipality officers to understand the attitudes, policies and design processes which contribute to safe and enjoyable public spaces for women and girls.
I hope to return to the UK with recommendations for how our public spaces can be made better for everyone.
