Biography
I am programme lead for membership and advocacy at an equality charity, with experience in communications and campaigns. I have been involved in disability advocacy for many years, stemming from both my lived and professional experience.
The focus for my Fellowship is to understand how disabled people in post-secondary education can be better supported as they move into employment. I became disabled during my final year at university and the support I needed didn't materialise, leaving me unable to finish my course. Navigating further study and work has been challenging, with inaccessibility, stigma, bias and discrimination - and many disabled people face the same.
These experiences motivated me to improve how disabled students are supported in education and in their move into meaningful employment. I hope to learn from holistic disability services and programmes in Canada and the Netherlands, and how these can support disabled students to thrive in the education-to-work process. I hope to bring back practices that can be adapted in the UK, to create equitable and supportive routes to fulfilling employment, where disabled people's skills and talents are better recognised and valued.
