Biography
I am a senior lecturer and registered nurse at Canterbury Christ Church University, where I train the next generation of nurses who support people with learning disabilities. My Fellowship focuses on specialist learning disability nursing, and what happens to people's health and care when that specialism disappears from the workforce. Australia and New Zealand have already travelled that road, and I want to understand what was lost so that England can make better decisions about its own workforce.
I have spent nearly 30 years working in this field, across clinical practice, education, and national policy, and I have seen how specialist nurses make a difference to some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Through this Fellowship I hope to produce practical recommendations for policymakers, regulators, and universities that help protect and strengthen the specialist workforce that people with learning disabilities deserve.
