I am a natural history photographer and science communicator. My Fellowship involves visiting some of the largest museums in the USA to learn more about the digital preservation of museum specimens through photography and scanning, and using this to further public knowledge of our natural world.
I will use what I learn to advocate for the digital preservation of some of the UK's most important collections that are mostly hidden from public view, with the aim of making them more accessible to the public for educational purposes.
My background is in ecology research, photography and videography and my experience from all of these fields will develop my project.
Photographer Ed Hall (CF 2020) has curated an exhibition for Leeds Museum this month. The exhibition highlights the importance of insects in natural history collections and ways of digitally preserving them, which is the topic of Ed’s Fellowship.
