I am Founder and CEO of Circular Economy Wales CIC and Founder of CELYN Ltd.
My Fellow's Report, Circular Wealth Wales, providing recommendations for a Welsh mutual credit system (a form of complementary currency system) was published in 2020.
Following this, I presented my findings to Wales's First Minister, Mark Drakeford, and between April 2020 and April 2021 piloted the system (supported by the Foundational Economy Challenge Fund and Covid-19 Action Fund) now called the 'Celyn' in Wales. During this time, I became Wales's first Global Acumen Fellow 2020. I co-wrote the business plan with Malcolm Hayday CBE, Founder CEO of Charity Bank UK, drawing key learnings from the pilot. The plan has now been given a clean bill of health by Giles Thornley, CEO of the Wales Development Bank.
I have had a long involvement in the circular economy, helping design and develop Wales's first zero waste village in 2007 to 2008. In 2012, in my own community, I was a founder and Chair of Minera Community Ltd, leading a successful community share scheme to reopen a community pub and restaurant.
Social enterprise founder Eifion Williams (CF 2019) presented the findings of his mutual credit system pilot project to key stakeholders across Wales this month. This is part of Eifion’s Covid-19 Action Fund project and was inspired by Eifion’s Fellowship, which explored co-operatively managed dual currency systems.
