The focus of my Fellowship was on exploring the effects of perinatal peer support for women facing multiple social disadvantage. I was keen to explore the scope for developing support for women facing challenging social circumstances during pregnancy, focusing on women experiencing homelessness and multiple social disadvantages. Following my travels I started a pilot project, providing birth partner support for women in safe house and refuge accommodation.
In November 2019 I became Founder and Director of Solace Peer Support CIC, a social enterprise that believes that basic social support can make an enormous difference to the most vulnerable families. Solace provides holistic peer support, befriending support during pregnancy and the initial postnatal period, in addition to birth partner support.
In 2019 we received funding to design an accredited perinatal peer support training course: CACHE Level 1 and 2 Perinatal Peer Support – Supporting Women Facing Social Disadvantage.
