I am the founder of the Anthony Walker Foundation (AWF). I applied for the Fellowship when I learned it was offering funding for life-changing travelling opportunities to develop the skills to help young people within their communities.
The purpose of my Fellowship was to systematically research a range of youth projects – to make comparisons, develop and share my own experiences, sensitively explore the many issues faced by young people and to learn new skills from that. I was privileged to be able to visit New York and Jamaica to experience successful youth projects which were empowering young people to become leaders.
At this time, the AWF had an established young ambassador's project. The knowledge and experiences I gained from my Fellowship helped the youth programme to create opportunities for our students to become high achievers, going on to fulfil their life goals and realise their potential. This further influences their families, friends and community to live a positive and impactful life, making real the Fellowship mission to provide life-changing opportunities.
