I am a Deaf, British Sign Language (BSL) using professional from London, and I am researching ways of improving emergency and disaster services for Deaf people.
I am retired from the Adult and Children's Deaf Mental Health Services within the NHS. I worked within these services for over 30 years in a wide variety of roles including therapist, manager, project manager, trainer, lecturer and advisor and I have qualifications in counselling, management and mental health.
Currently, I am an independent Deaf advisor on multiple mental health related projects including work at the Jasmine Suite, NHS Deaf Adult Mental Health Service in Birmingham and teaching medical students about Deaf awareness at King's College London. I am also President of the British Society for Mental Health and Deafness (BSMHD) and an Ambassador for the European Society of Mental Health and Deafness (ESMHD). My volunteer work in Indonesia supports Deaf mental health awareness programmes alongside the Indonesian Department of Health and collaborating Indonesian Deaf organisations.
