Biography

I'm Head of Community Programmes at the Young Foundation. I support people across the UK to develop their leadership skills and create change in their communities. For my Fellowship I travelled to Toronto, Chicago and New York to explore innovative migrant social inclusion initiatives. I documented best practice – ranging from holistic approaches to teaching English as a second language and supporting newly arrived migrants, to inclusive immigration policies, community-led projects and activism – all with a particular focus on gender.

My Fellowship was inspired by working as part of a migrant women's mentoring and social inclusion project in east London, and as a feminist researcher. I wanted to learn how these three North American cities might inspire and improve the UK's social inclusion practices for migrant communities.

My Fellowship has been integral to shaping my work and activism since then, which has focused on protecting and promoting minority rights. The experience exposed me to what can be achieved and it continues to inspire me.
