Biography

I am the Director of the Global Exchange on Migration and Diversity at the University of Oxford.

My Fellowship focused on migrant integration in cities and how we can live well together. The aim of the Fellowship was to learn from approaches in cities in the USA and Italy and to bring this knowledge back to the UK.

My interest in the topic comes from my work in UK local government. I was Policy and Equalities Manager at Islington Council where I led a social services team supporting vulnerable migrants. In 2015 I managed Islington's contribution to the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme – Islington was one of the first areas to join the programme in the UK.

After my Fellowship I helped to establish the Inclusive Cities programme, which aims to embed the findings of my Fellowship, alongside wider research evidence, by supporting UK local authorities to create a step change in their approach to integration and inclusion. I now lead the programme, which works with 12 UK cities and has supported them to design and deliver strategies and action plans on inclusion, often for the first time.
