Scaling community food businesses: lessons from South America
Scaling-up community-owned food businesses to support community cohesion
2019
Many years ago I set up a social enterprise in the slums of Peru. Subsequent career moves took me into the social enterprise space, in particular in supporting agribusinesses – some of which were in very remote locations yet were growing fast. Thanks to the Churchill Fellowship, I travelled to Peru and Bolivia in May 2019 to visit community food businesses, in particular exploring the themes of leadership, scale, support needs and provision. I have an absolute passion for food, social enterprise and for Latin America, and on my return I set up Info Latinos, a tech-enabled community platform for newly arrived Latin Americans to integrate faster and reach their potential in the UK.
