Biography
I'm a senior lecturer in fashion marketing and management and a fashion entrepreneur. My academic work wouldn't have been possible without my Fellowship, Arctic to Antarctic – Learning from Fashion's Oldest. I was privileged to work with UNESCO-recognised makers along 18,000 miles of road, desert and snow. This gave me the foundation to lecture on sustainable fashion. My research is housed at the Research Centre for Environmental Humanities.
I grew up in and around the clothing trade, handling garments and visiting manufacturers up and down the country. Later I spent time using e-commerce to build brands, harnessing modern technology to support slow craft. This began my questioning of the origin of menswear and the value of its provenance within a flawed fast fashion system.
My vision today is a sustainable fashion system – fashion built upon circular principles across clothing, company and country – particularly the need to consider the closed-loop design of our garments, the environmentalism, diversity and consciousness of our companies, and the regenerative nature of the fashion system.
