Biography

I work for The Wildlife Trusts, as Director - International, aiming to ensure that the local community rooted conservation work we deliver in the UK is contributing to the international climate and biodiversity challenges. My career started in horticulture; I became an educator and conservationist. In recent years I have become increasingly interested in urban nature. I helped develop community urban nature programmes in Douglas (Isle of Man) where I lived between 2020 and 2025, and I have completed the IUCN Professional Certificate in Nature for Cities.

The majority of people live in towns and cities and so, for the climate and biodiversity crisis, developing more sustainable cities is a crux issue for our planet going forwards, both for people and nature. The focus of my Fellowship is an expansion and enhancement of urban greening and nature, learning from five major north European cities that are all previous winners of the European Green Capital Award.

I will engage with the communities in the cities I visit, learn, build connections and ideally longer-term collaborations for knowledge sharing, and bring back and pilot some of the ideas.
