Biography

I am the founder and CEO of the Children's Book Project, a national literacy charity that directly tackles book poverty and supports improved outcomes through long-term nationwide gifting programmes reaching over 200k children annually living in the most challenging circumstances. I'm passionate about the transformational power of reading on children's ability to access education, yet the UK is facing a reading crisis, with only 1 in 3 babies and children being read to at home on a regular basis.

Our partners nationwide share with us daily how they struggle to engage the most vulnerable parents within their community. My Fellowship will draw on approaches that I see in global contexts that address confidence and engagement, the complex 'human' barriers to shared reading. I will focus on creating a practical and motivating online toolkit that provides inspiration for schools and groups to engage parents in a guilt-free way with shared reading with their children.

In doing so I aim to help change the trajectory for vulnerable families across the UK while also helping to inform a national shift in how we support every parent to be their child's first teacher.
