I am a nurse, yoga teacher and Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) facilitator with a background in medical education. I have an MSc in Research, exploring the mental wellbeing of junior doctors. In my current role as the Outreach Director of Edinburgh Community Yoga – a not-for-profit social enterprise – I am responsible for planning, organising and developing outreach programmes in partnership with the NHS, health and social care partnerships, and third-sector organisations. I also teach trauma-informed yoga programmes around the city, run NHS and corporate staff wellbeing programmes, and deliver workshops on outreach teaching for yoga teachers.
For my Churchill Fellowship in 2019 I spent seven weeks travelling to the USA, Canada and Kenya to study sustainability in yoga, not for profit.
In 2006, while travelling in south Asia I began practising yoga and meditation regularly. I believe that the opportunity to try yoga should be accessible to everyone. This belief has fuelled my interest in yoga outreach, particularly in working with adults affected by stress and anxiety, addiction and complex PTSD.
