I am a watch manager for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service. I am the Specialist Training and National Resilience Coordinator working in the Service Training Department.
The aim of my Fellowship is to learn from responders around the world who are currently dealing with animal rescue emergency incidents which, due to climate change, are likely to occur in the UK. There is currently a lack of awareness, funding, equipment, knowledge and experience. My aim is to change that, so that we are prepared for any future emergency events; to gain knowledge and be able to influence managers; to learn from those who have experienced and responded to these natural disasters. Ultimately this will be safer for the public as they will not have to put themselves in danger to rescue their own pets or livestock. It will be safer for emergency responders as they will have all resources they require. And it will be safer for our animals which are cut off or left behind when other priorities take precedence.
As a farmer and a firefighter, I am passionate about making a difference in both sectors for the future.
