Biography
I am a senior social worker in a child protection team, which I love and enjoy. I am also a participation officer supporting the delivery of a participation programme to encourage change, transition and independence; this has developed my passion for promoting the wellbeing and rights of children in and from care, obtaining their voices to make structural and organisational change.
In my experience there is a disconnect between care experienced children's vocalised wants and needs and the care they are receiving from their corporate parents. By learning from colleagues in Canada and Iceland, I would like to improve how we obtain and use children's voices to improve the care they receive as well as create a tool for practitioners.
With learning from my Fellowship, I would like to create workshops and training to encourage practitioners to reflect, understand the role they play as a corporate parent, become accountable and commit to child and youth centred systemic change. I hope my Fellowship will allow the creation of conditions where youth in and from care can be part of a society where they are valued, invested in and interdependently supported throughout their entire lives.
