I am an independent researcher, evaluator and service designer and have been running my own consultancy business for more than 25 years. My areas of interest have always been in the realm of social impact – healthcare, social care and the environment in particular.
My Fellowship in 2001 was about innovative approaches to mental health information for the general public. I travelled to Australia and New Zealand to find out how both governments and NGOs approach public health information, an area in which they were and still are leading the way. I learnt about user-centred communication design and also started to see the potential for digital channels – at the time online health information was still in its infancy.
The Fellowship had a profound impact as it prompted me to undertake a master's degree in digital publishing and I then went on to specialise in the provision of digital information to both professionals and the public in health and social care.
More recently, I received a Covid-19 Action Fund grant to develop a mobile microlearning offer for unpaid carers in my local area during the Covid-19 pandemic.
