Terrence was a retired museum director with 40 years' senior management experience in Yorkshire and London. In 2005 he was made a Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire and in 2012 awarded the MBE for Services to Museums and the Heritage. He was initially an archaeological conservator and curator in Hull.

In 1980 his Fellowship enabled him to study the preservation of wall and floor mosaics in Italy and north Africa.

In 1983 he became Curator and Director of the Yorkshire Museum in York, and in 1987, Assistant Director and head of Public Services of the Science Museum, London.

Subsequently, in 1992 he was invited by the Earl of Harewood to become the first Director and CEO of the Harewood House Trust, to lead the multi-million-pound restoration of the house and gardens. Between 1992 and 2007 (when he retired), Harewood won several regional and national awards for conservation, tourism, the arts and education.

Since his Churchill Fellowship he has also served on several museums and heritage bodies, including the Heritage Lottery Fund's (HLF's) 'Expert Panel', York Minster Fabric Committee, Yorkshire Film Archive, York Civic Trust and as Chair of York Archaeological Trust.
