Biography
I am Artistic Director and Producer of Opera Circus, a performing arts charity linked to a long-term EU–UK youth arts programme called The Complete Freedom of Truth (TCFT). The main topic of my Fellowship was the use of music in elementary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly in tackling post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and disability, both mental and physical.
My interest was that my company for many years had been touring new works of opera and music theatre, nationally and globally, and as a result had often been asked to provide workshops with children. This led to me working with Emeritus Professor of Music Nigel Osborne, a world expert in this field. As a result, we are now fully engaged in producing a programme of 'music and wellbeing' practices, led by Nigel and delivered across the UK. We are also looking to return to India and Africa in the near future.
We are currently involved in producing workshops, seminars and training, including for the NHS, with various councils and other partners, as well as in schools. The Fellowship was an immense opportunity for me to research this topic within some of the communities I had already been working with in Bosnia and to understand the impact in my own terms.
